food: cuisine- one of my favorite topics

I made a pizza tonight for dinner.

gorgonzola, crumbled
green onions, chopped
trout, smoked
nuts, pine
olives, green

cheese pizza, trader joes

I forgot to drink a glass of wine with it.

semeiotica revisited

apparently semeiotica is Italian for

symp·to·ma·tol·o·gy (sĭm’tə-mə-tŏl’ə-jē, sĭmp’-)
n.
The medical science of symptoms.
The combined symptoms of a disease.

awesome.

okay, you are wondering why this is cool.

well…given what I posted earlier about how signs and sex and what-not are related, I forgot to mention that a big questiion for evolutionary biologists is about what forces maintain sexual reproduction instead of, well, asexual reproduction. Turns out that PARASITES are thought to account for selection to maintain sex and recombination (e.g. meiosis). The idea is that parasites try to infect their hosts, and the hosts don’t want to be infected. Eventually, hosts that recombine their genomes have more genetic variation to “escape” the parasites…that’s the idea at least.
